What are Test Reports?

Before you buy a new or used camera or accessory it is always a good idea to read how it was rated. We have been supplying copies of tests from Amateur Photographer for over 25 years.

Amateur Photographer is the primary photographic journal in the UK which has come out weekly since 1884. We can provide copies of every test they have ever published. There are over 7,500 different AP tests now available on cameras, lenses and accessories.

If your interest is in digital photography we can now also supply all the tests published in What Digital Camera magazine as well as the tests from Amateur Photographer. This magazine began in June 1997 and has become one of the leading monthly magazines in the field. There are now more than 400 tests available.

The types of test available are:
Preview test reportsa preview written when a particular camera or accessory was due to be released
Full test reportsthe main test on a particular camera or accessory
Comparison test reportsa comparison of a group of similar cameras or accessories
Short test reportsa report of less than one page
Review test reportsa look back at a camera or accessory
Articlesan article about using a camera, accessory or a photographic subject of interest
Fact sheetsa combination of a report and detailed description of a piece of equipment, its use and history
Full lens test reportsthe main test on a particular lens
Multiple lens test reportsa test on a group of lenses, usually from the same manufacturer

Please judge by the length of the report if it is likely to contain the information you require. Obviously a short report cannot contain the same detailed information as a much longer report but, particularly for very old equipment, a little information is better than none.

Unlike instruction manuals, test reports are ideal to be downloaded from the Internet as they are only a few pages long. Most test reports from Amateur Photographer since 1998, and all test reports from What Digital Camera are now available to be immediately downloaded once we have processed your order.

Please note that if you are ordering both test reports (which you can download) and instruction manuals (which you cannot) we will send all items together by post. If you specifically want to download your test reports please place a separate order for those items.

When downloaded test reports and articles are supplied as black and white or colour PDF files. When sent by post they are supplied as high quality black and white photocopies.
